In 1996 a group of Kırmanji speakers who had contributed to Kırmanji literature, formed a group they called Vate Study Group in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. This group has realized 33 meetings from 1996 to 2021. At these meetings they attempted to do the work necessary for the standardization of Kırmanji written language. The most common words used in the daily language were selected and standardized, word roots and prevalance having been taken into account. Furthermore spelling rules have also been discussed during these work sessions. Having begun its publishing life in the summer of 1997, Vate Journal has published 69 issues to date, applying the decisions taken at the meetings. The first 20 issues of Vate Journal were published in Sweden; in 2003 Vate Publishing House was established in İstanbul, beginning a new era with the publication of the 21st issue. The most recent is the 69th issue.
During its 24-year publishing history from 1997 to present, Vate Journal has been the only Kırmanji journal published continuously. It continues to play a historical role in the field of Kırmanji literature and culture.
